Muslim shops sell biryani laced with birth control pills to Hindus? Fictional story viral

A massively widespread message claims that Muslim-owned hotels in highways across Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra are mixing the food served to Hindus with tablets that cause impotence. It further alleges this step is being taken to reduce the population of Hindus in India and adds that Muslims are also secretly mixing meat in the food.

Alt News has received multiple requests for fact-checking the message on our official mobile application.

Below is a Facebook post carrying the same story.

The complete message reads the following in Hindi, “सावधान, सावधान,!!

The same images have been shared claiming this is happening in Coimbatore.

The claim is viral on Facebook.

Also viral last year

Twitter user @RD_BANA posted (archive link) a collage of four images in March last year to depict a Muslim man serve biryani laced with pills. “Biryani is cooked in separate vessels for Muslims & Hindus. The Biryani for Hindus is laced with tablets that make one impotent. Restaurant in Coimbatore called Masha Allah of Rehman Bismillah was caught selling such Biryani. Beware! They’re getting at you in every possible way,” he wrote.

Facebook user Sasikala Kathiresan raised a similar claim (archive link), adding that the pills are birth control tablets served to Hindus. “We have learnt that the biryani served in Muslim-run hotels are mixed with birth control pills to restrict the birth of Hindu babies. There are reports that Muslims are indulging in such techniques. Hindus please don’t buy stuff from Muslim shops it would result in grave danger,” reads the message.

Similarly, several Facebook users shared the viral images along with Tamil text.

The same claim has also been shared in Hindi – “कोयम्बटूर में “माशा अल्लाह” नाम से फ़ास्ट फ़ूड बेचने वाला मुल्ला 2 बर्तनों में बिरियानी पकाता था….एक मुस्लिमों के लिए और एक हिन्दुओं के लिए। हिन्दुओं के बर्तन में लड़के व लड़कियों को नपुंसक बनाने की टेबलेट मिलाता था ताकि हिन्दुओं की जनसंख्या वृद्धि को रोका जा सके.”

Alt News performed a reverse image search on Google, Yandex and TinEye and found that all the images were lifted from random websites.

These are lifted from a 2019 article in IBC Tamil, a London-based news website which covers news related to Tamil diaspora in Sri Lanka.

According to the report, the Police Special Task Force recovered a large stock of sexually stimulating pills and abortion pills from “the warehouse of extremists linked to the Easter raid in Colombo.”

The official Twitter handle of Bijnor Police had tweeted this image on July 11, 2019. Its statement said – “Serkot police station @bijnorpolice have arrested 6 people accused in the smuggling of illegal arms in a madrasa where they were found with 1 pistol 4 tamanche and a large number of cartridges.” https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?creatorScreenName=ArchitMeta&dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-1&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X2hvcml6b25fdHdlZXRfZW1iZWRfOTU1NSI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJodGUiLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3R3ZWV0X2VtYmVkX2NsaWNrYWJpbGl0eV8xMjEwMiI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJjb250cm9sIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1149309124049432578&lang=en-gb&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.altnews.in%2Fmuslim-shop-sells-biryani-laced-with-abortion-pills-to-hindus-fictional-news-viral%2F&sessionId=9fae81010222ed59cb78d9e880c14c34a5100d0b&siteScreenName=AltNews&theme=light&widgetsVersion=82e1070%3A1619632193066&width=550px

A false claim was therefore propagated on social media by combining photographs from varied websites and videos. The claim that Muslim-run shops are mixing pills that cause impotency in Biryani served to Hindus is false. Moreover, no restaurant named ‘Masha Allah of Rehman Bismillah’ in Coimbatore was found on Google search results.
